Welcome to the Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Graz
Jewish culture, history and literature in all their Jewish and non-Jewish interactions are at the center of the research. An explicit cultural studies orientation with a focus on Jewish history and Jewish literature characterizes the CJS as a research and teaching institution.
Since 2000, the Center for Jewish Studies has been engaged in research and teaching on Jewish history, Jewish literatures and cultures since the Emancipation Era, taking into account the diverse forms of interaction between Jews and non-Jews. The CJS staff primarily pursue theory-based research approaches and the premises of critical historical and cultural studies. Spatially, the research interests of the CJS focus primarily on Central Europe and the neighboring regions to the east and southeast.
The CJS is a partner of the EHRI-AT consortium (https://www.ehri.at/), which has set itself the goal of establishing a Holocaust research infrastructure in Austria within the framework of EHRI (https://www.ehri-project.eu/).
